If you haven’t figured it out, there’s a revolution going on very quietly around us, but very loudly in the pocketbooks for the few who are taking advantage of it. There’s people who are writing blogs and making hundreds of thousands of dollars from them talking about how to install wordpress to other bloggers gossiping about celebrities. It’s funny, but despite companies making billions on their IPO just a few years after the dot com bust and other companies valued at Microsoft levels before even going public, many are still questioning the many ways these companies got to the place where they did.
While it may seem very biased (since I run a company focused on the following), I do know how they got at least part way to where they are now… And despite what I’m about to write, I’m sure you’ll still think it’s voodoo like a recent email I got from I guy I used to respect very highly and was an Internet pioneer. He told me that SEO was voodoo…even though I know he was 1/2 joking, he was 1/2 serious too because he wasn’t willing to listen to some free advice on how to help his site get more traffic NOT on the “long tail of keywords”, but rather the main keywords that companies like Expedia or Amazon get by doing the right SEO.
So, yes, I’m about to tell you that SEO is one of the reasons why these companies got to where they are at. However, I will tell you as well, it’s also because they focused on more than just SEO, but still finding a way to show up constantly for searches is probably the #1 marketing tactic I would say all companies should figure out. It’s not horribly complicated and it simply requires a little savvy and a lot of discipline. Sort of sounds like some business practices you need to follow as well in order to be successful…
